Geopolitical context
The Middle East, and especially Iraq and Syria, have been caught in a spiral of violence since 2003 and 2011. The societies have been brutalized and destructured by war, with populations largely displaced. At the height of the violence, the atrocities committed by the so-called Organization of the Islamic State have left indelible wounds in Iraqi and Syrian communities, many of whom have had no choice but to escape from the camps.
After the liberation of the territories controlled by the EI - Mosul in July 2017, Raqqa in October 2017 and Baghouz in March 2019 - at the cost of innumerable destructions, we now want to participate in the reconstruction of cities, societies and minds.
